Six Receive 2010 South Shore Academic Scholarships

Six graduating seniors from area high schools have received 2010 South Shore Foundation Academic Scholarships of $1,000 each. South Shore Foundation is the charitable foundation of Northern Arkansas Telephone Company. School administration officials select their school’s recipient from applicants based upon their academic records.

Shelby Lynn Stephens
Shelby Lynn Stephens of Lead Hill is involved in cheerleading, dance, art club and Honor Society. She was the winner of the Patriot Pen Essay contest. She plans to study nursing at North Arkansas College.

Davin Chay Hayes
Davin Chay Hayes of Omaha is involved in basketball, baseball, Beta Club, Future Business Leaders of America, and choir. He was the recipient of the 2009 accounting award for his class. He plans to study engineering at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Chad Wesley Dunham
Chad Wesley Dunham of Flippin is a member of the National Honor Society, Science Club, band, Renaissance Club, and the Stream Team. He was named Valedictorian of his class and plans to study Civil Engineering at University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.

Cara Zel Hilles
Cara Zel Hilles of Bruno-Pyatt is involved in baseball, Future Business Leaders of America, Future Farmers of America, and Interact. He was named Salutatorian and plans to study Surgical Technology at North Arkansas College.

Braden Jefferson
Braden Jefferson of Yellville-Summit is involved in golf, baseball, football, basketball, National Honor Society, and Student Council. He served as the Vice President of German Club, Senior Class Treasurer, and was a recipient of a Scholastic Achievement Award. He plans to study biology at the University of Arkansas at Fayetteville.

Maggie Jo Pruitt
Maggie Jo Pruitt of Bergman is active in golf, basketball, and community service projects. She was an Ayn Rand National Essay Finalist and plans to study hospitality at the University of Arkansas.

South Shore Foundation is a nonprofit, charitable organization working to enhance the quality of life in the South Shore - Bull Shoals - Arkansas region. South Shore Foundation awards scholarships for academic achievers in each area school district and promotes education for all ages. The foundation values the natural environment as a basis for the South Shore way of life and believes telecommunications can be employed to advance economic opportunity and community betterment.
