South Shore Foundation announced two new members to their board of directors recently, Roger Bates of Yellville and Kathie Yates of Peel. They join seven other current directors of the foundation.

A graduate of Hendrix College, Roger Bates retired from Southwestern Bell after 33 years with the company. A longtime visitor to the area, he and his wife of 54 years moved here in 1990. He became acquainted with South Shore through a good friend. His hobbies include wood working and sports. He and his wife have a son and a daughter, six grandkids, and four great-grandkids. Bates attends the First Presbyterian Church in Yellville, and is active in the Twin Lakes Community Foundation, School of New Hope, Marion County Home Town Health, Ozark Family Ministries, and Mid-Marion County Rotary Club.

Kathie Yates and her husband own and operate The Yates Group, LLC, a privately held family owned business established to provide turbine aircraft acquisitions, sales, and consultation. After years of vacationing in the Ozarks, she and her husband bought property in Peel in August 2000. When they found out the area had reliable telecommunications services to operate a home business they were able to move their business and take up permanent residence in Peel, in May 2005. She attended San Jacinto College in Houston, Texas and enjoys entertaining, gourmet cooking, gardening, boating, good music and animals. She and her husband, John, have four daughters and six grandchildren.

Of her involvement on the South Shore board Yates said, I appreciate the chance to review and learn more about individuals and groups who aspire to enhance our natural environment. Endeavors of this type dovetail beautifully with other purposes of South Shore because the quality of life for those on the South Shore of Bull Shoals Lake tends to be enhanced as well. Additionally, I value any attempts to increase technological literacy for both individuals and professionals. Because most of my career has been as an entrepreneur Ive experienced firsthand the challenge of keeping up with rapidly expanding technology. Any chance to increase ones technology knowledge base is truly an opportunity.
