Q. Why Offer Scholarships?

A. South Shore Foundation, a charitable organization funded by NATCO Communications, Inc. in Flippin, offers annual academic scholarships to help young people obtain a higher education to increase their future earning power and help ensure economic development in their home region.

Q. Why Must Students Attend an Arkansas College/University?

A. The foundation supports Arkansas colleges and universities. We believe that proximity to a student's home area and family contributes to academic success in college. We believe colleges in Arkansas will best communicate to their students the career opportunities in our region and in Arkansas.

South Shore Foundation Goals and Programs

The foundation may give preference to projects that use telecommunication technology to advance education, preserve the environment, improve or expand community services, or develop the economy. Since 1996, the foundation has approved funding for projects valued at more than $450,000.

The South Shore Academic Scholarship was one of the first grant programs established, due to the foundation's commitment to encourage higher education for young people of the area. First offered only to Flippin High School students, the scholarship program has expanded to encompass six schools in Marion and Boone Counties.

South Shore Foundation's governing body is the Board of Trustees consisting of NATCO company officers and leaders in business, government, and education in the South Shore and surrounding area. They meet quarterly at the NATCO office in Flippin.
